The Warning Signs and Symptoms of Stroke

Strokes are more common, and just as serious, as you think. It is one of the leading causes of disability and death. It is important to know the warning signs and body language that suggest someone may be experiencing a stroke.

If you didn't know already, a stroke is the rapid loss of brain function due to a disturbance in blood supply to the brain. A stroke is a serious medical emergency that can cause permanent neurological damage and even death. The risk factors for stroke include old age, high blood pressure, previous strokes, diabetes, high cholesterol and tobacco smoking. Strokes are currently the second leading cause of death worldwide.

So what are the warning signs?

It is crucial to know the warning signs for strokes because the sooner they are treated and addressed, the less chance that there will be serious damage to the brain. Stroke symptoms can develop gradually, but usually the symptoms appear rather suddenly and without warning. Stroke symptoms include:

-Numbness or weakness in the face, arm, leg and especially on one side of the body

-Sudden confusion or trouble understanding other people

-Trouble speaking or a sudden slurring of words when an individual typically does not have difficulty with speech

-Trouble seeing in one or both eyes

-Trouble walking, staying balanced or coordinated. This, together with the sudden pain, are usually why some people affected by stroke will suddenly fall down

-Dizziness or light-headedness

-Severe headaches that come on for no apparent reason

There are also various kinds of strokes that you should be aware of:

Ischemic Stroke: This kind of stroke happens when a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain becomes blocked for a variety of reasons, most common being a sudden blood clot.

Hemorrhagic Stroke: This is a very serious form of stroke because it occurs when a blood vessel ruptures and bleeds into the brain.

Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA): This is considered a 'mini stroke', usually from a temporary blockage. TIA does not cause permanent damage to the brain, but it may cause some of the stroke warning signs listed above, some of which may last anywhere from minutes to hours. These are warning signs that you should not ignore.

What should you do if you or a loved one has symptoms?

-Don't ignore the warning signs: even if you have only one of the warning signs consult a doctor or hospital immediately

-Don't wait because every minute counts!

-Call emergency services if you or a loved one experiences one or more of the symptoms within a few minutes

-Check the time when the symptoms begin so that you can share this information when you arrive at the hospital.

Watch an instructional video by survivors of stroke on the importance of recognizing stroke body language and symptoms.
Remeber,  strokes can be a very serious matter, so be aware of the symptoms and body language that suggest you or someone you love are suffering a stroke, and consult a doctor if you think signs are becoming persistent.

Why Are Some of Us Cold?

We all get cold from time to time. But some of us get cold more often than others, especially at our toes and hands. Why do some people feel colder than others? What causes us to feel cold?

Here are a few explanations of why you might be feeling cold where the next person doesn't.

Hypothyroidism
The thyroid gland supervises the body's metabolism with the help of two hormones: Thyroxin (T4) and Triudotironin (T3) which it makes out of iodine. A malfunction in the thyroid gland can lead to a lower amount of activity (Hypothyroidism) or too much activity (hyperthyroidism).

In Hypothyroidism, the metabolism is slowed down, which manifests as sensitivity to cold, feeling tired, gaining weight, slower heartbeat and blood pressure, loss of hair, muscle contraction, skin dryness, fragile fingernails and a decrease in libido.

"Standard blood tests usually miss about 50% of Hypothyroidism cases," explains Dr. Jacob Teitlbaum, author of the book 'From Fatigued to Fantastic'. "If the test comes back without finding a problem," says Dr. Teitlbaum, "but you still see a problem, you may want to consult with a more holistic doctor."

A Shortage in Iron
Iron is needed for the transfer of oxygen by our blood to the cells of the body, to be harvested into energy. Low levels of iron can explain why you are feeling cold. "If you don't have enough energy due to a shortage in iron, your inner thermostat might get damaged and that is why you are cold." Says Dr. Teitlbaum.

Ask your doctor to take a blood test to check the ability of the blood to retain iron. The norm measurements for men should be 12-300 nanograms per ml. For women, it is 7-140 nanograms per ml. And for children - 7-140 nanograms per ml.

A low count in this test points to a shortage in iron, which may quickly lead to anemia. You can increase your iron intake by eating red meat, liver or oysters, and of course you can always take supplements. A doctor visit is advised.

Lack of Sleep
When the body doesn't get enough rest, the nervous system, which helps regulate the temperature of the body, is undermined, which may express itself as dropping body temperatures. In past decades, more people used to get 8 hours of sleep a night. But in the era of internet, mobile phones and televisions, that period of sleep is significantly shortening and with it the quality of sleep. Allow yourselves to make up for essential sleeping time to return the balance to your nervous system.

Raynaud's Syndrome
If you find that your hands hurt or tingle whenever you're outside, you may be suffering from Raynaud's Syndrome. "This happens when small blood vessels that are supplying blood to the skin, shrink and restrict the flow of blood to our extremities." Says Dr. Teitlbaum.

This syndrome is manifested by the appearance of paleness in the ends of our fingers or toes, and in many cases it is a result of prolonged exposure to cold, accompanied by mental pressure. This can also happen from over-smoking or using medicine that shrinks your blood vessels. "To know if you suffer from this, put your fingers in the freezer and see if they turn white."  Taking magnesium can help take care of symptoms, as well as quitting smoking, putting on gloves and socks and addressing cases of chronic pressure.

Candida
Candida is a fungus of yeast found naturally in the colon that is controlled by the immune system. Only sometimes it gets out of hand, which increases the pressure on the activities of the hypothalamus, a brain area responsible, among other things, for regulating and monitoring body temperature. Usually, the candida gets out of control in people who have taken too many antibiotics, which harms good bacteria in the intestines and can be expressed by prolonged headaches, tiredness and a sensitivity to cold.

"To rid yourselves of the candida," says Dr.Teitlbaum, "It's recommended to take probiotics and to limit the intake of sugar and yeast, so as not to feed the fungus."

Stress
One of the main characteristics of our society today is stress. While worries are an inseparable part of our daily lives, ongoing stress can put stress on the hypothalamus and cause problems with its functioning. Even a low stress that doesn't go away can accumulate and weaken the bodily functions that are dependent on the hypothalamus, such as the thyroid gland or the internal temperature control of our bodies.

It isn't easy to fight stress, among the best solutions are Meditation, focusing on positive aspects of life, finding time to rest and eliminating the causes of stress in our lives.

There is such a thing as too thin
Animals that live in very cold places, such as seals, penguins and whales, have a very thick layer of fat to insulate them from the outside temperature. A person who is too low on fat, automatically becomes sensitive to cold. Make sure your BMI (Body Mass Index) isn't lower than 18.5 (the lowest normal measure).

Different Parts of Our Body Age At Different Times

We all accept that getting older is inevitable. A leading clinicians have revealed the exact age when different body parts start to decline, most alarming being the brain and lungs.

French doctors have found that the quality of men's sperm starts to deteriorate by 35, so that by the time a man is 45 a third of pregnancies end in miscarriage. Here, with the help of leading clinicians, Angela Epstein tells the Daily Mail the ages when different parts of the body start to lose their battle with time.

BRAIN - Starts aging at 20
As we get older, the number of nerve cells - or neurons - in the brain decrease. We start with around 100 billion, but in our 20s this number starts to decline. By 40, we could be losing up to 10,000 per day, affecting memory, co-ordination and brain function.

GUT - Starts aging at 55.
A healthy gut has a good balance between harmful and 'friendly' bacteria. But levels of friendly bacteria in the gut drop significantly after 55, particularly in the large intestine, says Tom MacDonald, professor of immunology at Barts And The London medical school. As a result, we suffer from poor digestion and an increased risk of gut disease. Constipation is more likely as we age, as the flow of digestive juices from the stomach, liver, pancreas and small intestine slows down.

BREASTS - Start aging at 35
BY their mid-30s, woman's breasts start losing tissue and fat, reducing size and fullness. Sagging starts properly at 40 and the aureole (the area surrounding the nipple) can shrink considerably.

BLADDER - Starts aging at 65
Loss of bladder control is more likely when you hit 65. Women are more vulnerable to bladder problems as, after the menopause, declining estrogen levels make tissues in the urethra - the tube through which urine passes - thinner and weaker, reducing bladder support. Bladder capacity in an older adult generally is about half that of a younger person - about two cups in a 30-year-old and one cup in a 70-year-old. ...

LUNGS - Start aging at 20
Lung capacity slowly starts to decrease from the age of 20. By the age of 40, some people are already experiencing breathlessness. This is partly because the muscles and the rib cage which control breathing stiffen up.

VOICE - Starts aging at 65
Our voices become quieter and hoarser with age. The soft tissues in the voice box (larynx) weaken, affecting the pitch, loudness and quality of the voice. A woman's voice may become huskier and lower in pitch, whereas a man's might become thinner and higher.

EYES - Start aging at 40
Glasses are the norm for many over-40s as failing eyesight kicks in - usually long-sightedness, affecting our ability to see objects up close.

HEART - Starts aging at 40
The heart pumps blood less effectively around the body as we get older. This is because blood vessels become less elastic, while arteries can harden or become blocked because of fatty deposits forming on the coronary arteries - caused by eating too much saturated fat. The blood supply to the heart is then reduced, resulting in painful angina. Men over 45 and women over 55 are at greater risk of a heart attack.

LIVER - Starts aging at 70
This is the only organ in the body which seems to defy the aging process.

KIDNEYS - Starts aging at 50
With kidneys, the number of filtering units (nephrons) that remove waste from the bloodstream starts to reduce in middle age.

PROSTATE - Starts aging at 50
The prostate often becomes enlarged with age, leading to problems such as increased need to urinate, says Professor Roger Kirby, director of the Prostate Centre in London . This is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia and affects half of men over 50, but rarely those under 40. It occurs when the prostate absorbs large amounts of the male sex hormone testosterone, which increases the growth of cells in the prostate. A normal prostate is the size of a walnut, but the condition can increase this to the size of a tangerine.

BONES - Start aging at 35
'Throughout our life, old bone is broken down by cells called osteoclasts and replaced by bone-building cells called osteoblasts - a process called bone turnover,' explains Robert Moots, professor of rheumatology at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool . Children's bone growth is rapid - the skeleton takes just two years to renew itself completely. In adults, this can take ten years. Until our mid-20s, bone density is still increasing. But at 35 bone loss begins as part of the natural aging process.

TEETH - Start aging at 40
As we age, we produce less saliva, which washes away bacteria, so teeth and gums are more vulnerable to decay. Receding gums - when tissue is lost from gums around the teeth - is common in adults over 40.

MUSCLES - Start aging at 30
Muscle is constantly being built up and broken down, a process which is well balanced in young adults. However, by the time we're 30, breakdown is greater than buildup, explains Professor Robert Moots. Once adults reach 40, they start to lose between 0.5 and 2 per cent of their muscle each year. Regular exercise can help prevent  this.

HEARING - Starts aging mid-50s
More than half of people over 60 lose hearing because of their age, according to the Royal National Institute for the Deaf.

SKIN - Starts aging mid-20s
The skin starts to age naturally in your mid-20s.

TASTE AND SMELL - Start aging at 60
We start out in life with about 10,000 taste buds scattered on the tongue. This number can halve later in life. After we turn 60, taste and smell gradually decline, partly as a result of the normal ageing process.

FERTILITY - Starts aging at 35
Female fertility begins to decline after 35, as the number and quality of eggs in the ovaries start to fall. The lining of the womb may become thinner, making it less likely for a fertilized egg to take, and also creating an environment hostile to sperm.

HAIR - Starts aging at 30
Male hair loss usually begins in the 30s. Hair is made in tiny pouches just under the skin's surface, known as follices. A hair normally grows from each follicle for about three years, is then shed, and a new hair grows.  Most people will have some grey hair by the age of 35. When we are young, our hair is coloured by the pigments produced by cells in the hair follicle known as melanocytes.

10 Indian Women Freedom Fighters

We Salute

There is something about those moments during the flag hoisting which makes our heart bloom with pride and patriotism, isn't it? And as India celebrated its 63rd Republic Day, let's take a moment to remember all the brave Indian women  who made our country proud.

Rani of Jhansi: You will hardly find an Indian who hasn't grown up hearing the brave adventures of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi. She was one of the leading personalities in the National Uprising of 1857. Because of her never-say-die spirit, today she is an epitome of courage and her name is used as a metaphor for bravery!

Sarojoni Naidu: Sarojini Naidu has been a beacon of inspiration to many women. At a time when women were oppressed to a large extent in many states, she was one of the first few women who stepped out and took the reins of leadership in her own hands. As the first woman President of Indian National Congress and Governor of Uttar Pradesh, she displayed some rare qualities. Her poems continue to inspire us.

Begum Hazrat Mahal: She was one of the iconic freedom fighters of the National Uprising in 1857. When the mutiny began, she was one of the first freedom fighter who urged the rural folk to rise up against the British oppression. She thus seized the control of Lucknow and announced her son as the King of Oudh. However, when the British recaptured Lucknow, she was forced to retreat to Nepal.

Vijaylakshmi Pandit: Like her brother Jawaharlal Nehru, she too felt passionately for her country. After serving our nation for years, she became the first woman President of the United Nations General Assembly. A writer, a diplomat, and a politician, her works are an inspiration to many young women.

Kittur Rani Chennamma: Even though you may hardly be familiar with her name, she was one of the earliest Indian rulers who fought for freedom. 33 years before the National Uprising, this queen of a princely state in Karnataka led an armed rebellion against the British, and lost her life in the end. Even today, she is revered as one of the bravest women in Karnataka.

Bhikaiji Cama: Bhikaji Cama is undoubtedly one of the bravest women in the history of Indian Freedom Struggle. She was one of the pioneers in setting up the Indian Home Rule Society. When in exile, she wrote several revolutionary literatures from the freedom movement. She even made radical speeches for gender equality in Egypt.

Sucheta Kriplani: With the dedication and passion that she exuded for her country during the struggle, she was elected as the first woman Chief Minister of any Indian state. She stepped up for her country with the Quit India Movement and she was one of Gandhiji's close associates in several Partition riots. She was a role model and encouraged many women to join the struggle.

Aruna Asaf Ali: She was an active member of the Congress Party who not just fought for our country's freedom, but also for the rights of political prisoners in Tihar Jail. She launched a hunger strike for the latter and her efforts resulted in improved conditions but she was subjected to solitary confinement. She displayed great courage by standing up to the oppressive rule as well as her family who were against the idea of her marrying a Muslim (she was originally a Brahmo).

Savitribhai Phule: "If you educate a boy, you educate an individual but if you educate a girl, you educate the whole family," was the words in which she firmly believed in. Tired of seeing women being oppressed and being denied the rights of education, Savitribai Phule took it upon herself to provide girl education. Even though she had to bear the insults and abuse which were thrust upon her by the higher class, she continued to provide basic education to girls and women.

Usha Mehta: She was one of the youngest freedom fighters of the Indian freedom movement. She was hardly five years old when she met Gandhi and was inspired by his ideals. At the age of 8, she participated in the `Simon Go Back' protest. Even though her father who was a judge under the British Raj tried his best to dissuade her from participating in the freedom struggle, she made sure to be a part of it in small yet significant ways. After quitting her studies to be a part of the Quit India Movement, she dedicated herself completely to the struggle.

तू होश में थी फिर भी हमें पहचान न पायी;

Roz taaro ko numaish me khalal padta hai

mera naseeb mere haath kat gaye
warna me teri maang me sindoor bharne wala tha

hamne khairaat bhi mangi hai to khuddari se

Mera apna tajurba hai tumhe batla raha hu main
koi lab chu gaya tha tab ke ab tak gaa raha hu main
bichud ke tum se ab keise jiya jaaye bina tadpe
jo me khud he nahi samjha wohi samjha raha hu main..

Mere jeene me marne me tumhara naam aaye
game saanse rok lu fir bhi yahi ilzaam aayega
har ek dhadkan me jab tum ho to fir apraadh kya mera
agar radha pukaregi to fir ghanshyam aayega...

koi patthar ki murat hai kisi patthar me murat hai
lo hamne dekh li duniya bahut hi khoobsurat hai
zamana apni samjhe par mujhe apni khabar ye hai
tujhe meri zaroorat hai, mujhe teri zaroorat hai.

Salute to all girls
TOP 5 REGRETS OF THE DYING:

Ware writes of the phenomenal clarity of vision that people gain at the end of their lives, and how we might learn from their wisdom. "When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently," she says, "common themes surfaced again and again."

Here are the top five regrets of the dying, as witnessed by Ware:

1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

"This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it."

2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard.

This came from almost every patient that she nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

"Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying."

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

"This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content, when deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again."

What's your greatest regret so far, and what will you set out to achieve or change before you die?

Kuch vasthu tips🔴🔴🔴🔴

A man brings his best buddy home for dinner ... unannounced at 7:30 pm after work.

His wife begins screaming at him & his friend just sits & listens in.

Wife: My hair & makeup are not done, the house is a mess, the dishes are not done, I'm still in my pajamas & I can't be bothered with cooking tonight ! Why the hell did you bring him home for ?

Husband: Because he's thinking of getting married & I promised him a demo !

Please read and share.
