What is High Blood Pressure?

When you have your blood pressure taken, your health care provider is measuring the pressure, or tension, that blood exerts on the walls of the blood vessels as it travels around the body. In a healthy person, this pressure is just enough for the blood to reach all the cells of the body, but not so much that it strains blood vessel walls.
Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg).
A typical normal blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg, or "120 over 80."
The first number represents the pressure when the heart contracts.
The second number represents the pressure when the heart relaxes.
Blood pressure greater than 140/90 mm Hg is considered high.
Generally, blood pressure will go up at certain times - for instance, if you smoke a cigarette, win the lottery, or witness a car crash - and will return to normal when the stressful or exciting event has passed.
But when blood pressure is high all the time, the continuous increased force on blood vessel walls can damage blood vessels and organs, including the heart, kidneys, eyes, and brain.
The medical term for high blood pressure is hypertension.

Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure
Blood travels through blood vessels much like water through a garden hose. The blood in the vessels is under pressure just like the water in a hose when the tap is turned on.
With each heartbeat more blood is pumped into the vessels - like turning up the tap - so the pressure rises. This is the systolic blood pressure, the first number in the blood pressure measurement, which is normally around 120.
Between heartbeats, while the heart is resting, the pressure in the arteries is lower. This is the diastolic pressure, second number in the blood pressure measurement, which is normally around 80.
 

Indication of high blood pressure
 

You can increase the pressure in a hose either by turning up the tap or by putting a crimp in the hose (that is, by narrowing the hose). In this same way, the blood pressure in blood vessels will rise if fluid flows more forcefully or if the arteries are narrowed.
Pressure in a hose can be regulated either by controlling the rate at which fluid passes through it or by widening it. Likewise, the pressure in the blood vessels can be controlled, with medications that act on the heart or blood vessels and with certain lifestyle modifications.

Although high blood pressure can be extremely dangerous, it usually causes no symptoms - so many people don't even realize they have it. High blood pressure can only be detected with accurate and repeated measurements of a person's blood pressure. That's one reason why it's so important to have regular medical checkups.
Even though high blood pressure can be treated safely and effectively, only about one-quarter of people who have high blood pressure take the necessary steps to keep their blood pressure within a normal range.
There are three types of hypertension:
Primary hypertension (essential hypertension). This is high blood pressure for which no cause can be found. Most people with high blood pressure (90 to 95 percent) have this type of hypertension. Doctors suspect that a combination of lifestyle, diet, heredity, age, gender, race/ethnicity, hormone levels, and other factors all contribute to high blood pressure.
Secondary hypertension (non-essential hypertension). This is high blood pressure for which a definite cause can be found. This type of high blood pressure accounts for only 5 to 10 percent of all cases of hypertension. Some of these causes are temporary or controllable - for instance, pregnancy or the use of certain medications - while others are chronic conditions like hormonal diseases, kidney disease, or head injuries.
Isolated systolic hypertension (ISH). Older people are sometimes susceptible to another form of high blood pressure, called isolated systolic hypertension. In people with this condition, blood pressure is higher than normal when the heart beats, but returns to normal in between beats of the heart. The large difference in pressure can place additional strain on artery walls.

What Factors Affect Blood Pressure?

Blood pumped through blood vessels is always under pressure, much like water that is pumped through a garden hose. This pressure is highest in the arteries closest to the heart and gradually decreases as the blood travels around the body.
Blood keeps moving around the body because there are differences in pressure in the blood vessels. Blood flows from higher-pressure areas to lower-pressure areas until it eventually returns to the heart.
 

Hypertension is much strain on your heart

Blood pressure is controlled by three things:
1 - How fast the heart beats (heart rate). The pace at which the heart beats, or heart rate, is counted in heartbeats per minute. Generally, when heart rate increases, blood pressure rises. When heart rate decreases, blood pressure drops.
2 - A number of things affect heart rate, including the body's nervous system; chemical messengers called hormones, body temperature, medications, and diseases.
3 - How much blood the heart pumps with each beat (stroke volume). The amount of blood pumped out of a ventricle with each heartbeat is called stroke volume. When you're resting, stroke volume is about the same as the amount of blood that veins carry back to the heart. But under stressful conditions, the nervous system can increase stroke volume by making the heart pump harder.
Stroke volume can also be affected by certain hormones, drugs, and diseases, as well as increases or decreases in the amount of blood in the body, called blood volume.

You might also hear the term "cardiac output" used to describe the amount of blood that's pumped through the body. Cardiac output is simply the amount of blood pumped out of a ventricle in one minute:
Cardiac output = Heart rate x Stroke volume (amount of blood pumped with each beat)
As cardiac output increases, so does blood pressure. This is why heart rate and stroke volume are important ways for the body to control blood pressure.
How difficult it is for blood to travel around the body (peripheral resistance). The third major component that affects the blood pressure is the caliber or width of the arteries. Blood traveling in narrower vessels encounters more resistance than blood traveling through a wider vessel (its harder for water to pass through a narrow pipe than a wide pipe).
Depending on what a person is doing, the amount of blood the heart pumps varies enormously. Yet the blood pressure normally remains pretty stable. That's mainly because the body adjusts the resistance of the arteries, either widening or narrowing the
m as appropriate, to prevent the blood pressure from swinging wildly.
This ability to regulate the width of the blood vessels is called the peripheral resistance. Most of the resistance to blood flow in the circulation occurs in the small-diameter arteries called arterioles.
These arterioles are especially important in the immediate regulation of blood pressure. That's because they contain specialized smooth muscle in their walls that can relax or contract, allowing the blood vessel to get wider or narrower.

किसी मजार पर एक फकीर रहते थे।
सैंकड़ों भक्त उस मजार पर आकर दान-
दक्षिणा चढ़ाते थे। उन भक्तों में एक
बंजारा भी था। वह बहुत गरीब था फिर
भी नियमानुसार आकर
माथा टेकता फकीर की सेवा करता और
फिर अपने काम पर जाता उसका कपड़े
का व्यवसाय
था कपड़ों की भारी पोटली कंधों पर
लिए सुबह से लेकर शाम तक गलियों में
फेरी लगाता। एक दिन उस फकीर को उस
पर दया आ गई उसने अपना गधा उसे भेंट कर
दिया। अब तो बनजारे
की आधी समस्याएं हल हो गई।
वह सारे कपड़े गधे पर लादता और जब थक
जाता तो खुद भी गधे पर बैठ जाता। यूं
ही कुछ महीने बीत गए एक
दिन गधे
की मृत्यु हो गई। बनजारा बहुत
दुखी हुआ,
उसने उसे उचित स्थान पर दफनाया,
उसकी कब्र बनाई और फूट-फूट कर रोने
लगा। समीप से जा रहे किसी व्यक्ति ने
जब यह दृश्य देखा तो सोचा जरूर
किसी संत की मजार होगी।
तभी यह
बंजारा यहां बैठकर अपना दुख रो रहा है।
यह सोचकर उस व्यक्ति ने कब्र पर
माथा टेका और अपनी मन्नत हेतू
वहां प्रार्थना की कुछ पैसे चढ़ाकर वहां से
चला गया। कुछ दिनों के उपरांत ही उस
व्यक्ति की कामना पूर्ण हो गई। उसने
खुशी के मारे सारे गांव में
डंका बजाया कि अमुक स्थान पर एक पूर्ण
फकीर की मजार है। वहां जाकर
जो अरदास करो वह पूर्ण होती है। मन
चाही मुरादे बख्शी जाती हैं
वहां।
उस दिन से उस कब्र पर
भक्तों का तांता लगना शुरू हो गया।
दूर-दराज से भक्त अपनी मुरादे बख्शाने
वहां आने लगे। बनजारे
की तो चांदी हो गई, बैठे-बैठे उसे कमाई
का साधन मिल गया था।
एक दिन वही फकीर जिन्होंने बंजारे
को अपना गधा भेंट स्वरूप
दिया था वहां से गुजर रहे थे। उन्हें देखते
ही बंजारे ने उनके चरण पकड़ लिए और
बोला,"आपके गधे ने
तो मेरी जिंदगी बना दी। जब तक
जीवित था तब तक मेरे रोजगार में
मेरी मदद करता था और मरने के बाद
मेरी जीवीका का साधन बन
गया है।"
फकीर हंसते हुए बोले," बच्चा ! जिस मजार
पर तू नित्य माथा टेकने आता था वह

वो भीं दिन थे...

जब घड़ी एक आध के पास होती थी और समय सबके पास होता था।

बोलचाल में राजस्थानी का इस्तेमाल हुआ करता था और हिंदी सिर्फ शहरों तक सिमित थी और अंग्रेज़ी तो पिने के बाद ही बोली जाती थी।

हर जगह खो खो, कबड्डी खेलते थे अब केवल संसद में खेली जाती है।

लोग भूखे उठते थे पर भूखे सोते नहीं थे।

फिल्मों में हिरोइन को पैसे कम मिलते थे पर कपड़े पूरे पहनती थी।

लोग पैदल चलते थे और पदयात्रा करते थे पर पदयात्रा पद पाने के लिये नहीं होती थी।

साईकिल होती थी जो चार रोटी में चालीस का एवरेज देती थी।

चिट्ठी पत्री का जमाना था पत्रों मे व्याकरण अशुद्ध होती थी पर आचरण शुद्ध हुआ करता था।

शादी में घर की औरतें खाना बनाती थी और बाहर की औरतें नाचती थी अब घर की औरतें नाचती हैं और बाहर की औरते खाना बनाती है।

अब सोचो हमने क्या पाया और क्या खोया.....

मरते मरते बीबी से गुज़ारिश कि

" बेलन टांग दे " लोगों ने समझा "वेलेंटाइन डे "!

बस तभी से लोग इस दिन को वेलेंटाइन डे केते है और बाबा की याद में फूल बांटते रेते है !

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.

But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself,because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."

The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?"

"That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them."

"For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.

Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house."

Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.

My dear daughter and son,

I am writing this to you because of 3 reasons.

1. Life, fortune and mishaps are unpredictable, nobody knows how long he lives. Some words are better said early.

2. I am your father, and if I don't tell you these, no one else will.

3. What is written is my own personal bitter experiences that perhaps could save you a lot of unnecessary heartaches. Remember, the following as you go through life:

1. Do not bear grudge towards those who are not good to you. No one has the responsibility of treating you well, except your mother and I and may b your would be spouse To those who are good to you, you have to treasure it and be thankful, and ALSO you have to be cautious, because, everyone has a motive for every move. When a person is good to you, it does not mean he really likes you. You have to be careful, don't hastily regard him as a real friend.

2. No one is indispensable, nothing is in the world that you must possess. Once you understand this idea, it would be easier for you to go through life when people around you don't want you anymore, or when you lose what/who you love most.

3.Life is short. When you waste your life today, tomorrow you would find that life is leaving you. The earlier you treasure your life, the better you enjoy life.

4.Love is, but a transient feeling, and this feeling would fade with time and with one's mood. If, your so called loved one leaves you, be patient, time will wash away your aches and sadness. Don't over exaggerate the beauty and sweetness of love, and don't over exaggerate the sadness of falling out of love.

5. A lot of successful people did not receive a good education, that does not mean that you can be successful by not studying hard ! Whatever knowledge you gain is your weapon in life. One can go from rags to riches, but one has to start from some rags !

6. I do not expect you to financially support me, when I am old, neither would I financially support your whole life. My responsibility as a supporter ends when you are grown up. After that, you decide whether you want to travel in a public transport or in your limousine, whether you want to be rich or poor.

7.You honour your words, but don't expect others to be so. You can be good to people, but don't expect people to be good to you. If, you don't understand this, you would end up with unnecessary troubles.

8. I have bought lotteries for umpteen years, but I could never strike any prize. That shows if you want to be rich, you have to work hard ! There is no free lunch.

9. No matter how much time I have with you, let's treasure the time we have together. We do not know, if we would meet again in our next life.

सारे रिश्तोंको तो हम मार चुके ,

गैरों की क्या बात करें ,

At a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on a lady.

She started screaming out of fear.

With a panic stricken face and trembling voice,she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.

Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.

The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ...it landed on another lady in the group.

Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama.

The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.

In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.

The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on his shirt.

When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant.

Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach
responsible for their histrionic behavior?

If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?

He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.

It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed the ladies.

I realized that, it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me.

It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.

More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.

दुश्मन का पेशाब निकालने को
तो हमारी आँख ही काफी है

कारगिल में जब मैंने अपना पंजाब
वाला यार जसवंत खोया था
आप गवाह हो साहब जी उस वक्त
मै बिल्कुल भी नहीं रोया था

खुद उसके शरीर को उसके गाँव
जाकर मै उतार कर आया था
उसके दोनों बच्चों के सिर साहब जी
मै पुचकार कर आया था

पर उस दिन रोया मै जब उसकी
घरवाली होंसला छोड़ती दिखी
और लघु सचिवालय में वो चपरासी
के हाथ पांव जोड़ती दिखी

आग लग गयी साहब जी दिल
किया कि सबके छक्के छुड़ा दूँ
चपरासी और उस चरित्रहीन
अफसर को मै गोली से उड़ा दूँ

एक लाख की आस में भाभी
आज भी धक्के खाती है
दो मासूमो की चमड़ी धूप में
यूँही झुलसी जाती है

और साहब जी ! शहीद जोगिन्दर
को तो नहीं भूले होंगे आप
घर में जवान बहन थी जिसकी
और अँधा था जिसका बाप

अब बाप हर रोज लड़की को
कमरे में बंद करके आता है
और स्टेशन पर एक रूपये के
लिए जोर से चिल्लाता है

पता नही कितने जोगिन्दर जसवंत
यूँ अपनी जान गवांते हैं
और उनके परिजन मासूम बच्चे
यूँ दर दर की ठोकरें खाते हैं..

भरे गले से तीसरा अफसर बोला
बात को और ज्यादा न बढाओ
उस रात क्या- क्या हुआ था बस
यही अपनी सफाई में बताओ

भरी आँखों से हँसते हुए बलवान
बोलने लगा
उसका हर बोल सबके कलेजों
को छोलने लगा

साहब जी ! उस हमले की रात
हमने सन्देश भेजे लगातार सात

हर बार की तरह कोई जवाब नही आया
दो जवान मारे गए पर कोई हिसाब नही आया

चौंकी पे जमे जवान लगातार
गोलीबारी में मारे जा रहे थे
और हम दुश्मन से नहीं अपने
हेडक्वार्टर से हारे जा रहे थे

फिर दुश्मन के हाथ में कटार देख
मेरा सिर चकरा गया
गुरमेल का कटा हुआ सिर जब
दुश्मन के हाथ में आ गया

फेंक दिया ट्रांसमीटर मैंने और
कुछ भी सूझ नहीं आई थी
बिन आदेश के पहली मर्तबा सर !
मैंने बन्दूक उठाई थी

गुरमेल का सिर लिए दुश्मन
रेखा पार कर गया
पीछे पीछे मै भी अपने पांव
उसकी धरती पे धर गया

पर वापिस हार का मुँह देख के
न आया हूँ
वो एक काट कर ले गए थे
मै दो काटकर लाया हूँ

इस ब्यान का कोर्ट में न जाने
कैसा असर गया
पूरे ही कमरे में एक सन्नाटा
सा पसर गया

पूरे का पूरा माहौल बस एक ही
सवाल में खो रहा था
कि कोर्ट मार्शल फौजी का था
या पूरे देश का हो रहा था ?

बदकिस्मत कौन ?
एक बार यात्रियों से भरी एक बस
कहीं जा रही थी।
अचानक मौसम बदला धुलभरी आंधी के बाद
बारिश की बूंदे गिरने लगी बारिश तेज होकर
तूफान मे बदल चुकी थी
घनघोर अंधेरा छा गया भयंकर बिजली चमकने
लगी बिजली कडककर बस की तरफ आती और
वापस चली जाती
ऐसा कई बार हुआ सब की सांसे ऊपर की ऊपर
और नीचे की नीचे।
ड्राईवर ने आखिरकार बस को एक बडे से पेड से
करीब पचास कदम की दूरी पर रोक दी और
यात्रियों से कहा कि इस बस मे कोई
ऐसा यात्री बैठा है जिसकी मौत आज
निश्चित है
उसके साथ साथ कहीं हमे
भी अपनी जिन्दगी से हाथ न धोना पडे
इसलिए सभी यात्री एक एक कर जाओ और उस
पेड के हाथ लगाकर आओ जो भी बदकिस्मत
होगा उस पर बिजली गिर जाएगी और
बाकी सब बच जाएंगे।
सबसे पहले जिसकी बारी थी उसको दो तीन
यात्रियों ने जबरदस्ती धक्का देकर बस से नीचे
उतारा वह धीरे धीरे पेड तक गया डरते डरते पेड
के हाथ लगाया और भाग कर आकर बस मे बैठ
गया।
ऐसे ही एक एक कर सब जाते और भागकर आकर बस
मे बैठ चैन की सांस लेते।
अंत मे केवल एक आदमी बच गया उसने
सोचा तेरी मौत तो आज निश्चित है सब उसे
किसी अपराधी की तरह देख रहे थे जो आज
उन्हे अपने साथ ले मरता
उसे भी जबरदस्ती बस से नीचे उतारा गया वह
भारी मन से पेड के पास पहुँचा और जैसे ही पेड के
हाथ लगाया तेज आवाज से
बिजली कडकी और बिजली बस पर गिर गयी
बस धूं धूं कर जल उठी सब यात्री मारे गये सिर्फ
उस एक को छोडकर जिसे सब बदकिस्मत मान रहे
थे वो नही जानते थे कि उसकी वजह से
ही सबकी जान बची हुई थी।
"दोस्तो हम सब अपनी सफलता का श्रेय खुद
लेना चाहते है जबकि क्या पता हमारे साथ
रहने वाले की वजह से हमे यह हासिल
हो पाया हो।
